Home Sweet Home

May 17th, 2007 by Meaghan Francella

Hi!

Sorry I haven’t written in a while. It has been such a crazy week. After my missed cut last week at the Michelob Ultra at Kingsmill I made the 7 hour drive home in time to celebrate my 25th birthday! I was home Saturday and Sunday but was a little under the weather.

Monday night was my big debut throwing out the first pitch at the New York Mets game. I think I am going to stick to golf! I made it over the plate but threw more of a lob then a fast ball like I had anticipated! I had a blast at the game and I want to thank everyone who made the trip down to Shea Stadium to watch me throw out the pitch. It was one of the coolest experiences I have ever had!

This week has been crazy. I got to New Jersey on Tuesday and played a practice round. I was up super early on Wednesday morning for the pro am and then ran inside to do some media stuff for the tournament. Today I played at 9:05 with Laura Davies and Jee Young Lee who was runner up in last weeks tournament at Kingsmill. I shot 3 under but lost a couple of shots coming in. I had a good solid start and had a great following today! I want to thank everyone who made the trip to Clifton to watch! I’m looking forward to seeing everyone the rest of the week!

Hope all is well. Remember to follow live scoring on www.lpga.com

Michelob Ultra Open

May 10th, 2007 by Meaghan Francella

Hi

It is Thursday morning and I am sitting here on the porch of my private housing just watching the players come through. It is really convenient because I am staying right on the second green. It is a really nice setup and great that it is close to the course.

Well I have heard the Francella “Fanatics” (as Uncle Chucky is calling it) have arrived. I guess they listened to the navigation system in Joe Bells’ car and they were already in traffic because it took them the wrong way. I guess there is really no hope for Uncle Chucky, Uncle Caggie and Joe Bells. I had the pro am yesterday and Gerry Clarke and Billy Summa came out and watched. They said the course was a little hilly to walk so everyone will be in good shape after this week is over.

I play at noon today. I am sure it will be a good day on the course. A little overcast but a good temperature. I am hoping it warms up at home when I get there!

Until next time…

Back In Action!

May 7th, 2007 by Meaghan Francella

Hey!!

Well I know everyone has been going thru withdrawl since there was no live scoring to follow and no golf channel to watch this week since I wasn’t playing in Tulsa! Well I am back in action this week at the Kingsmill Resort in Williamsburg, Virginia. After an interesting week off I am extremely excited and ready to get back in tournament mode! If you all are wondering the dog bite is slowly getting better. The purple bruising is still there but is now a shade of yellow so that means its getting better. The pain from the tetnis shot is gone so I can finally lift my arm! It only took 4 days and 2 trips to the doctor! But I am sure I will be better by the tournament start on Thursday morning.

Kingsmill is a very nice resort and Williamsburg is a cool town. This week is marking the 400th anniversary. The queen was here last week and I heard President Bush will be here this weekend. Should be pretty crazy here. A couple of the Francella Fanatics (as I guess we are calling it according to Uncle Chucky) are going to be here this week. I guess a little taste of what Sybase is going to be like! I am looking forward to getting home and playing in the area! I haven’t been home since Christmas so I am really looking forward to getting home and going right to Poppy’s Cafe on Monday morning!

Tom, my coach is in town for the day tomorrow so we will get working on some things and he is going to walk around the course with me during my practice round tomorrow so that will be good! I am staying in private housing this week with a very nice family and they are right on the 2nd hole of the golf course. It worked out very nicely this week.

I am looking forward to seeing you all next week! I will be working on my curve ball since I will be throwing the first pitch out at the Mets game on Monday night! I have been told if I bounce it in there that I will definitely get a bad reaction from the fans at Shea Stadium. What people don’t know is that this kid from Port Chester was the first girl in Midget League when I played for the Cardinals! I was a pitcher too so those Met fans are in for a treat on Monday night!

Have a good week and I will check in later on.

Interesting Week off!

May 3rd, 2007 by Meaghan Francella

Well hello everyone!

As you all know I am not playing in the Tulsa event this week because I felt like my body needed a week off to recover from the last couple of weeks! On Monday I was in Washington D.C. doing a clinic for one of my sponsors so after the red eye flight from Morelia it was a long day on Monday afternoon. I got through it and got a good nights sleep that night. I flew back to North Carolina where my car was on Tuesday morning. I also came here to have a relaxing week off. I went to pick my car up where I left it and got bit by an 100 pound dog, a Weimereiner to be exact. Thank god he didn’t bite me on the hand. He bit me on the back of my leg and broke skin through my jeans. My leg looks awful and is all black and blue and has a cut. Not something that was planned in my week off itinerary! I went to the doctor yesterday and since I haven’t had a tetnis shot in 12 years I had to get one of those. He put me on some medication in case of infection. My arm hurts so bad from the shot that I can barely lift it and my leg is throbbing from the bite. I took pictures to show my mom since she is so worried. I told her I am fine but just in a little bit of pain! Just an update for you guys!

I am leaving Chapel Hill on Monday morning to drive to Kingsmill for the next tournament. It is about a 3 and a half hour drive so it isn’t too bad. I can’t wait to come home next week. I am driving home right after the event is over on Sunday afternoon the 13th. I am so excited to get home and sleep in my own bed!

Hope all is well with everyone! Will check in next week!

USA Here I Come!

April 29th, 2007 by Meaghan Francella

Hi everyone!

Well another good week in Mexico. I guess I am going to have to keep coming back here each year. I think Mexico agrees with me!!! I finished tied for 6th this week and shot a final round of 66 to get in that position. I played well all week and just didn’t make any putts in the first three rounds but got them going in today!

I am still in Mexico, headed to the airport in a little while. My flight leaves here at 1:25am and I fly to Chicago then to Washington DC for a corporate day for Duramed which is one of my sponsors. Next week the tour stops in Tulsa, Oklahoma but I am taking next week off before heading to Virginia for the Michelob Ultra at Kingsmill. I can’t wait to get home to the USA! I really miss it! I know I have only been out of the country for a week but I still miss home!

Hope all is well! Thanks for following!

Hola

April 23rd, 2007 by Meaghan Francella

Hola everyone!

That is right, I am back in my favorite place, MEXICO! I arrived here last night with only one of my bags. My clubs made it but my clothes didn’t. There were probably 75 people on the plane and 70 were LPGA players and caddies. So needless to say not a lot of people got their clothing. Everyone has their clubs though which is good. There is only one flight a day from Houston so the odds of me getting my bag today are not very good. One of the veteran players told me to bring a carry on with some clothes in case my bag didn’t make it so I am very glad I listened to her. When I got here I went down the street to the pharmacy and got some stuff, toothbrush, shampoo, lotion and frosted flakes! That will be my food for the week! I am staying with Lindsey Wright this week who is also on tour. She is from Australia and we have known each other for a couple of years. She arrives tonight so I am flying solo today.

This week should be fun but packed with stuff to do. I have to learn this golf course by Thursday which I have been told is not easy to do. I am going to play 9 holes today and tomorrow and then I am in the pro am on Wednesday. This will be an exciting week and I’m sure I will have good memories from my last trip too!

Hope all is well. Can’t wait to get home to New York! I am counting down the days until the Sybase!!!

week off

April 19th, 2007 by Meaghan Francella

Hi everyone
Sorry I haven’t checked in lately. After the event in Orlando I got in the car and worked my way up to North Carolina. I arrived in North Carolina Monday night and went right to bed.
I have just been practicing and hanging out. I’ve seen a couple of my friends that I haven’t seen in a while so that has been nice. I actually went down to play Pine Needles where they are having the US Women’s Open. The course was in great shape and they are already working towards getting the course ready for the tournament in July! I am getting excited for it!
Well off to Mexico on Sunday afternoon for the second time. Hopefully I will come back with the same result as last time!
Hope all is well and I will check in from Morelia, Mexico next week sometime!
Have a good weekend.

Greetings from Orlando

April 11th, 2007 by Meaghan Francella

Hi Everyone!

Well after a much needed week off I am now in Orlando, Florida for this week’s Ginn Open. The Reunion Resort is a beautiful place and the golf course is awesome! It is really tough and should be a great test of golf!

I arrived here on Sunday afternoon just in time to watch the Masters and see Zach Johnson win his first major! I don’t remember the last time I had an afternoon that I was able to watch 5 hours of golf on tv! It was a nice relaxing afternoon. I practiced on Monday and played 5 holes until is started to absolutely pour! I came in and waited for the rain to stop then went back out to practice for a little bit longer.

Yesterday I played 18 holes—not all at once though. We had another weather delay. I played 12 holes, came in and ate lunch because of the delay and then went back out and finished the last 6 holes in the rain. I think the rain follows the LPGA Tour. If anyone is having a drought just have us come in town and I promise it will rain. Today I am just practicing since I am not in the pro am. Should be a relaxing day.

The tournament starts tomorrow and I play at 12:33 with Laura Davies and Dawn Coe Jones. Laura hits it very far so I think the motto for tomorrow is hit first and putt last!
The event will be televised on Golf Channel and then will be on CBS this weekend but remember you can always follow on www.lpga.com

Hope all is well and you guys are having a great week!

Until next time…..

Week Off

April 4th, 2007 by Meaghan Francella

Hey everyone!

Well it was quite an exciting week in Palm Springs, California at my first major. I played in the final group the last day and finished tied for 5th place making a birdie on the final hole of the tournament to finish at one under par for the week. It was a great experience and I enjoyed every minute of it.

I have this week off and I am spending it in Naples, Florida working on my game and just trying to get some rest. I am going to go fishing tomorrow which will be a blast! I cannot wait for that. Hopefully I will catch a lot of fish and it will be a great day!

I go to Orlando on Sunday afternoon and we have the Ginn Open which is played at Reunion. It is going to be a great week and hopefully it will be another good finish for me.

I hope everyone is doing well. Thank you again for all of your comments, emails and phone calls!

First Major!

March 28th, 2007 by Meaghan Francella

Hello everyone!

First I want to thank everyone again for all of your comments and nice notes and emails. I really appreciate all of your support and cannot tell you how nice it is to have all of you in my corner.

This week has been so exciting! My first major championship. I am in Palm Springs, California where it is not suppossed to rain but if you have noticed the rain and wind follow the LPGA Tour. It has warmed up and it looks like it is going to be a beautiful week.

I got here on Sunday night and played a practice round on Monday morning. The rough is so thick that you can barely see your ball. The course is in good shape and the greens are rolling good so it should be a good week. On Tuesday, I was paired in the pro-am with Ben Rothesberger, the quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers. He was really nice and his girlfriend who is an actress rode around with us too. She was the lead in the movie Stick It and is also on the television show Heroes. He also had his 2 bodyguards and his agent with him. We had a lot of people following us but it was a fun day.

I played 9 holes this morning at 6:45 am. We call that the E-9, which stands for emergency 9. Got a really good practice in and was able to work around the greens and chip and putt a lot. I play tomorrow and Friday with Julieta Granada who I played with last week in Phoenix. It should be a nice day.

The tournament will be on ESPN this week so everyone can watch and of course follow on www.lpga.com. I am looking forward to having a great week! I hope I will be jumping in the water next to 18 green this week. The only thing is they better have swimmies or a life preserver since i don’t really swim too well!

Hope all is well and thanks again for all of your support this season!
